Platform Manipulation and Spam Policy

Overview

Artificially inflating or burying content on Goodbye App's services is prohibited, and so is behavior that disrupts other people's use of it. That covers posting in bulk for commercial purposes, running accounts or automation to work up likes and follows, and coordinating accounts to push the same thing.

Nothing is screened before it is posted. There is no software that reads what you write looking for any of this, so a report is how it reaches us, and a person reads every report. Counts are the one exception, and they are only counts: this service caps how many posts, letters, comments, likes and follows one account can make in a day. Reaching a cap refuses that action for the rest of the day and signs you out. It is a limit on volume, not a judgment about what you wrote, and nobody read your words to apply it. Everything else on this page is decided by a person reading a report.

What Constitutes a Violation of This Policy?

Operating more than one account to work up or bury the same content or the same accounts is prohibited. This includes:

• Creating multiple accounts to push posts under a hashtag.
• Engaging with the same posts and accounts.
• Misusing the mention or reply feature across multiple accounts.
• Boosting your own accounts through misuse of engagement features like likes and comments.

What these have in common is a pattern a person reading a report can see: the same content or the same account worked on by several accounts at once.

Boosting engagement or metrics artificially is not allowed on the Goodbye App . This includes activities such as buying or selling followers, likes, comments, mentions, using or promoting third-party apps that promise to increase followers or engagement, engaging in reciprocal exchanges to boost follows or Post engagements (e.g., participating in "follow trains," "decks," or "Like for Like" schemes), and engaging in the sale, purchase, trade, or offering of Goodbye App accounts, usernames, or temporary access to Goodbye App accounts. Every one of those is something a person reading a report can see in the account itself.

Additionally, the following behaviors are strictly prohibited:

You are prohibited from misusing Goodbye App product features in a way that disrupts the experience of others. This includes activities such as:

• Sending bulk, aggressive, or high-volume unsolicited replies, or mentions.
• Repeatedly posting and deleting the same content.
• Posting the same or nearly the same Post over and over into the same place.
• Reposting another account's words as your own across several accounts, or in coordination with other accounts.
• Leveraging the existing engagement on a Post to promote significantly different content.
• Repeatedly editing a Post until it says something substantially different from what people replied to. Correcting a post, adding to it, or rewriting it because you got it wrong is not this. What this covers is a post whose meaning has been swapped out from under the replies it collected.
• Following behaviors that are not allowed include "follow churn," which involves following and then unfollowing numerous accounts to artificially boost one's own follower count, as well as indiscriminate following and unfollowing of unrelated accounts in a short period, especially through automated methods.
• Duplicating another account's followers, particularly using automation.
• Bulk or automated activity that drives traffic to accounts, websites, products, services, or initiatives.
• Posting with excessive, unrelated hashtags in a single post or across multiple posts is prohibited.
• Posting under a hashtag that has nothing to do with what you posted, in order to put it in front of the people reading that hashtag.

These behaviors are disruptive and are not allowed on the Goodbye App platform.

What Does Not Constitute a Violation of This Policy?

Writing a great deal is not spam. People come here with months of things to say and sometimes very little time to say them, and they write it all in a week. Posting often, posting at night, posting several letters in a row, or writing far more than anyone around you does: none of that breaks this policy, and none of it is what any rule above is describing.

Sending the same words to several people is not spam either. If you write one letter and address it to your brother, your sister and your oldest friend, that is three letters saying the same thing, and it is meant to be.

Asking the people you love to follow you here, so that what you leave reaches them, is not self-promotion.

Writing about a scam that was worked on you is allowed. You may say what you were promised, what you paid, what you signed, and what it took from you. Warning the people you are writing to about something that took you in is not fraud, and this policy is not aimed at it.

The same holds if you were the one who ran it. An account of what you did, the money you took, the people you took it from and what it cost them, is a confession and not an offer, and it breaks nothing here. What separates the two is on the page: an offer has a thing for sale, a price, or a way to get in touch.

The daily caps described below are counts, and they apply the same way to everyone. If you reach one and you are writing against a deadline you did not choose, tell us, and a person will read it.

Who can report violations of this policy?

Any user with a Goodbye App account has the ability to report potential violations of this policy.

In-app and Desktop

You can report content for review in-app and desktop as follows:

1. Select Report Account from the icon:
2. Select "Scam or fraud".
3. Submit your report.

Consequences of Policy Violations:

When you violate this policy, the penalty depends on various factors, including the severity of the violation and your past record of rule infractions.

Daily caps:

• Every account has a daily cap on posts, letters, comments, likes and follows. Reaching one refuses that action for the rest of the day and signs you out; the count starts again the next day. This is the only part of this policy that happens without a person, and it is a count and nothing else. Nothing reads what you wrote in order to apply it. A lock of a set length is a separate thing, and a person decides it.

Removal and temporary account locks:

• Posts that break this policy are removed. There is no third state: we cannot show a post to fewer people, hold it back from anywhere, or leave it up with less reach, because none of that exists here. A post is either left alone or taken down. A first breach of this policy may also bring a temporary account lock. Repeat breaches result in permanent suspension of the account or accounts.

Temporary limitations or restrictions:

• A daily cap stops you writing. It does not take away reading: you keep your account and everything in it, and you can sign back in and open what has been sent to you. Letters you have already scheduled are not touched by a cap or by a lock, and they are released on the date you set.
• A suspension is a different thing and it is decided by a person. While an account is suspended you can still reach it in order to appeal, to contact us, to sign out, and to close the account.

Permanent suspension:

• Accounts found to have engaged in severe breaches are permanently suspended, and that can happen on the first report a person reads. Severe breaches include operating accounts given over mainly to the behavior described above, using those tactics against an election, buying or selling accounts, creating accounts to replace suspended ones, and operating accounts linked to entities with a history of violating Our Community Guidelines.

What this policy is for: the people writing here are writing to somebody, and what they leave has to arrive. Inflated counts, churned follows, and accounts run to push the same thing get in the way of that. If you see it here, report it. Nothing is screened before it is posted, so a report is how it reaches us, and a person reads every report.
